BSC Research Into Effect Of Television On Children

The Broadcasting Standards Council has released two new research projects concerning the emotional impact of television on children.

A BSC Research Working Paper by David Buckingham and Mark Allerton reviews and evaluates previous research studies into viewers’ emotional responses to television with a particular emphasis on the reaction of children.

Using this Review as a basis, qualitative research was conducted to provide insight into what children find frightening, moving and upsetting on television; different genres are covered, including horror, weepie, soaps and factual news programmes. Moving Images is published on 18 January by Manchester University Press.
