BSkyB And Granada In Man United Channel Rumours
Following discussions between Granada, BSkyB and Manchester United Football Club it is rumoured that the trio are planning the launch of a digital television channel centring on the club.
The channel is believed to be planned for next year to include three hours of original footage a day comprising reserve games, testimonials, friendlies and interviews. This footage will be repeated to give a full schedule. Premier League games will apparently not be shown. A budget of £10m has been mentioned and the deal is expected to be finalised within the next few weeks.
There is the possibility that the deal may extend to other Premier League clubs, tapping in to the reported 18 million football fans in England and Wales. Granada’s press officer refused to give further details and BSkyB were unavailable for comment.
