BSkyB Bid For Five Nations?
Unconfirmed reports in the weekend press suggest that BSkyB is attempting to wrestle the rugby union Five Nations Championship away from the BBC; the bid made for the exclusive rights is suggested to be £175m. The current contract with the BBC is worth an estimated £27 million and expires in March 1997.
BSkyB already has the rights to the Endsleigh League, Carling Premier League, the Ryder Cup, rugby league’s Super League and contracts to show Frank Warren’s boxing stable.
Neither BSkyB or the RFU were able to confirm reports this morning.
