BSkyB Faces Movie PPV Challenge
A small media company called Elmsdale Media is planning to launch a 300 film pay-per-view movie channel in direct opposition to BSkyB’s plans to launch a similar channel as part of its digital TV project.
Elmsdale is currently negotiating with Hollywood studios to secure film rights for the channel, which would run on high-capacity cable systems. Under the plans, viewers would be able to “hire” a film for 24-hours and even rewind it for repeat viewings.
BSkyB’s share price dropped slightly as a result of this news, falling 2 to 480.5p by 12.30pm.
