BSkyB Flotation Imminent
Weekend press reports suggest that BSkyB will issue a statement this week on whether or not it is to go ahead with a flotation on the London and New York stock exchanges.
BSkyB shareholders have been in talks trying to agree on a flotation that would value the company at more than £4bn. The four shareholders are currently News Corporation (50%), Granada (13.5%), Pearson (17.5%) and Chargeurs (17.5%). Murdoch is keen to float, primarily in order to reduce debt and release capital to invest in other ventures such as Star TV in Asia. Granada has made it clear it would sell its 13.5% under the right conditions, Pearson has indicated it may be interested in increasing its stake, but is not averse to a flotation. Chargeurs is believed to want to hold onto its stake.
