BSKYB Loss From Subscriptions In Millions
BSkyB has admitted that it may have lost millions of pounds in revenue because of illegal pirate viewing of its pay channels. In the five months this year up to May when the BSkyB cards were changed, at a cost of millions, the company believes around 50,000 customers were lost through pirate cards.
The figures are in the BSkyB affidavit submitted to the High Court, which estimated total losses at £2.25m for that period. BSkyB was successful in its bid to prevent BSB Electronics selling pirate cards.
The affidavit says that in the period before the new cards were introduced, subscribers were cancelling their current subscriptions and reactivating their switched-off cards.
