BSkyB Signs Web Deal With West Ham

British Sky Broadcasting has announced a five-year deal with West Ham United football club to design, develop and maintain the team’s internet site. The agreement, which runs from the beginning of the 2000-2001 season, will see Sky revamp the content and design of the website.

It will remain at its current location at westhamunited.co.uk and whufc.co.uk, but will also be accessible from Sky’s sports portals at skysports.com and planetfootball.com. Sky will enhance the content of the site and develop new online opportunities for the team’s fans.

This is the second web deal uniting Sky and a Premier League football team; in March this year the group signed a similar agreement with Tottenham Hotspur (see BSkyB And Spurs Sign Net Deal). This year has seen Sky signs a raft of sports-based internet deals including its acquisition of Sports Internet Group (see BSkyB Signs Sports Internet Deal As Digital Expansion Takes Its Toll).

Simon Green of BSkyB said: “West Ham United are an attractive and forward-thinking club and we want to build a site thet reflects their status and their vast following. This is s great deal for both parties and a ringing endorsement of Sky’s expertise in both new media and sport.”
