BSkyB Talks To Bank Over Digital Deal
According to press reports BSkyB is in talks with HSBC, the banking group that owns Midland Bank, regarding a joint deal which would offset some of the costs of digital satellite TV.
It is believed that the plans involve BSkyB offering banking services via its satellite system in return for subsidies to its set-top decoding box. At the moment the box would cost around £500 which BSkyB sees as prohibitive for most people, preferring a cost of around £200.
It is also reported that BSkyB was in talks with Barclays Bank, though these broke down because of wrangling over the profitability of the scheme.
