BSkyB announced a deal with Wilcon Homes today that will give Sky guaranteed access to 5,000 more homes. During 1999, the house-building company will build homes which come complete with a SkyDigital minidish.
The deal makes Wilcon the first developer to make a policy decision to install SkyDigital capability in all of its houses. Sky, however, is looking to strike similar deals with other property developers. Residents will still have to purchase the necessary set-top box to receive the digital service however.
Brian Woods, marketing executive at Wilcon Homes, commented: “An integrated reception system, already built into the fabric of the property, ensures Wilcon homeowners will be able to enjoy television entertainment in all rooms and will even have the ability to control the SkyDigital set-top box remotely from another room.”
BSkyB’s managing director, Ian West, was also enthusiastic about the deal: “Sky is proud to be involved in this important initiative, providing the technology of the future for the homes of today. Wilcon Homes is to be commended for its foresight in seeing that digital satellite systems should become a standard feature in all new homes.”
