BSkyB Web Sales House Launches

This week saw the launch of Web Wide Media, the world’s first Internet sales house which is joint owned by BSkyB and Ozemail, the Australian Internet service provider *BSkyB To Launch Internet Ad Service.

The company will focus its operations on consumer behavioural patterns rather than demographics because it believes the World Wide Web has the ability to identify an individual’s interests: this will then allow advertisers to deliver more tailored advertising messages. WWM claims it will use new technologies which will be able to identify the profile of a user and site and then display an appropriate ad from a selection stored in its database.

This is similar to the technology which EMAP Internet Sales, which launched two weeks ago, will be using to target its campaigns * EMAP Creates Web Sales House. A full interview discussing the issue of advertising on the Internet with Carol Dukes, director of EMAP Online, will appear on Newsline next week.
