BSkyB’s Digital F1 Coverage Denied
A spokesman from BSkyB today told MediaTel that no plans to broadcast Formula One in 1997 have been made and that BSkyB do not have the rights to show this event.
In the week that saw BSkyB agreeing to help fund the Kirch Group’s launch of digital television in Germany, speculation had it that BSkyB would benefit from the German company’s plan to provide a Formula One service across Europe. According to sources, coverage of the 1997 season would be broadcast in the UK on BSkyB’s new digital television *BSkyB Could Slow Down Digital Development with various channels offering different camera views.
Also, BSkyB said they have not made any decision to screen pay per view feature films in the Autumn. Pay per view could happen, but any announced dates are pure speculation.
