BT And Channel 5 In Retuning Deal

Channel 5 has announced that it has entered into a partnership with British Telecom to retune homes in Northern Ireland. BT will act as Channel 5’s agent to retune videos and other equipment attached to televisions in homes covered by the Black Mountain transmitter.

Up to 350,000 households covered by the Black Mountain transmitter will receive a letter in mid December explaining the retuning process. The transmitter will be switched on for a test transmission on January 5th 1997 and householders will be encouraged to test to see if they suffer any interference.

Ian Ritchie, Channel 5’s Chief Operating Officer said, “This agreement with BT in Northern Ireland is very important to Channel 5. The retuning operation is one of the biggest consumer projects ever undertaken in the UK and we have secured quality partners at every level.”
