BT Honoured For Ad Campaign At National Business Awards

British Telecom has received top honours in advertising and marketing at this year’s National Business Awards.

BT beat off competition from Bacardi Breezer, Marks & Spencer and Volkswagen to take the advertiser of the year award for its £60 million multi-media consumer campaign, Bringing People Together.

The judging panel chose BT as the overall winner, saying: “The evolution of this campaign is a great case history. The ability to take the message back up to the board is highly commendable. To achieve an uplift in business to such a degree in a crowded and depressed market place is a fantastic example of advertising at its best.”

Bruce Haines, president of the IPA, which sponsored the awards, added: “All of the shortlisted advertisers presented case studies which clearly demonstrated that advertising is an investment in the future and health of brands. Within an outstanding field, BT’s demonstration of advertising effectiveness was superb and a unanimous winner.”

Last week the IPA announced plans to launch a new policy group to act as a voice for agencies on new business issues and to promote best practice (see IPA Launches New Business Group To Promote Best Practice). The group has been formed in response to requests from the AAR for agencies to sign confidentiality agreements, delays by advertisers in making decisions following pitches and the abandonment of pitches.
