BT Launches Summer Promotions To Boost Broadband

BT has launched a series of summer promotions in an attempt to increase uptake of its broadband internet services.

The promotions, which run throughout August and September, will see the telecoms giant offer a range of incentives to tempt consumers to sign-up to its high-speed BT Broadband and BT Openworld products.

The special offers include free connection to BT Broadband on all orders up until the end of September; a reduction in the cost of a BT Openworld high-speed modem; an additional discount on all modem orders placed via the internet and free line activation for all new BT Broadband and BT Openworld accounts.

Commenting on the launch of the initiatives, Pierre Danon, chief executive of BT Retail, said: “These offers are designed to demonstrate our commitment to broadband Britain, as well as helping us hit our target of five million broadband connections by 2006.”

Earlier this year BT merged its Openworld high-speed internet service into a new joint venture with Yahoo!. The co-branded BT Yahoo! Broadband service will give BT Openworld users access to a range of Yahoo! content and features including its advanced SpamGuard filter and messenger service (see BT Merges Openworld Into New Yahoo! Venture).

The latest research from Nielsen//NetRatings shows that Western markets have seen dramatic growth in broadband subscriptions over the past year and more than a quarter of European internet users are now connected at high-speed (see Broadband Boosts Internet Usage Across Europe).
