BT Promotes Broadband To Businesses

BT Openworld has announced a series of cut-price offers and cash-back promotions to promote its broadband services to UK businesses.

The promotions, which will run to the end of the year, include waiving the initial set-up fees and equipment costs for its ‘Plug and Go’ product.

Tony Harris, president of business internet services at BT Openworld, commented: “The present economic downturn is forcing businesses of all sizes to take a more prudent approach to cost control. These promotions make it easier for businesses to invest in broadband thereby increasing productivity and reducing costs – two key objectives for any business given the current business climate.”

BT’s broadband services have been in focus recently and the company faces a Competition Commission inquiry, after rival ISP Freeserve successfully argued that the group was using its dominant position in the telecoms market to gain an unfair advantage in broadband distribution (see BT Broadband Faces Competition Commission Inquiry).

The broadband market is growing at a rapid rate and according to a recent report from communications regulator, Oftel, more than one million UK households now have a high-speed broadband internet connection (see Broadband Connections Break The One Million Mark). However, competition in the market has been fierce, with AOL, Freeserve and BT offering a variety of services to entice consumers and businesses into the broadband market (see Freeserve Ups Stakes With Broadband Price Cut).
