BT Puts The Ball In MCI’s Court

British Telecom are to wait for MCI to make the next move following WorldCom’s counter-bid of $30bn for an MCI merger (subscribers see BT Considers Options. WorldCom’s offer outstrips BT’s by about $7bn and BT are not planning to make a higher competing offer.

There is the possibility of a three-way merger deal although a BT spokeswomen said that they would wait for MCI to act before initiating any further moves. BT does not intend to enter talks directly with WorldCom but is looking at the issues carefully.
