BT Serves Up Broadband Wimbledon Coverage

BT Rich Media has announced a new deal with the All England Lawn Tennis Club and TWI to enable broadband users to replay the latest action from this year’s Wimbledon tennis tournament on their home PCs.

The company’s Wimbledon Plus video service will run via its digital content platform with content provided by TWI’s Interactive division. In addition to showing edited highlights, the deal allows users to use BT’s Click&Buy payment service to view entire matches, or pick from the All England Lawn Tennis Club’s library of official films at a cost of only 50p for 52 minutes of continuous play.

Commenting on the deal Rob McCowen, marketing director of The All England Lawn Tennis Club said: “This is yet another milestone for Wimbledon. We’re using state of the art technology to provide the perfect complement to our live TV feeds, to provide a wealth of extra content for the fans.”

Andy Brown, CEO of BT Rich Media added: “The partnership with The All England Lawn Tennis Club is the perfect example of how any organisation – large or small – can now publish content to the mass market. There is a huge global appetite out there for quality content, a fact which The All England Lawn Tennis Club has been quick to recognise. Many Wimbledon fans out there will want to relive special moments and this deal will enable them to do just that.”

BT launched its rich media brand earlier this year to boost broadband take-up, allowing anyone to create and distribute digital content online. The technology also gives home customers and businesses the ability to store, retrieve, sell and deliver everything from digital music and video footage to live sport and a range of special interest content (see BT Drives Broadband With New Rich Media Launch).
