Speculation is currently rife that Microsoft is looking to take over BT. Though BT has refused to comment on the matter its shares rose 26p to close at 583p and at 10:23 this morning the stock had risen a further 3p.
Other US companies are also said to be eying Britain’s seventh largest company, including AT&T and Bell Atlantic.
Microsoft has also settled its legal battle with the US Government over its Internet Explorer web browser. The company said that it will no longer be requiring Windows buyers to take up the browser.
