BT Teams Up With Sky For Cut Price Broadband Promo

BT has joined forces with Sky to offer discounted high-speed internet access as part of its effort to reach 5 million broadband users by 2006.
The deal will give new and existing subscribers to Sky Digital £80 off the price of equipment for BT Broadband. It builds on the reciprocal relationship between the two companies, which already sees BT residential customers get discounted deals on Sky services.

Angus Porter, managing director of BT Retail, commented: “This deal is a key driver in helping us achieve a higher volume of broadband connections and builds on our existing relationship with Sky. We are very confident that this will be a competitive proposition and I expect Sky customers to account for around 20% of BT Broadband sales.”
As part of the arrangement Sky World subscribers will save £80 on standard BT broadband equipment and will receive £20 credit on their Sky Digital bill if they sign up to the service for a year.
The arrangement will help to place Sky and BT on a level footing with their main cable rivals, Telewest and NTL, which already offer combined digital, internet and telephone packages.
According to a recent report from communications regulator, Oftel, broadband take-up has more than doubled over the past six months, with the number of high-speed internet connections in the UK now standing at over 1 million (see Broadband Connections Break The One Million Mark).
