BT To Trial New Internet Service
BT has announced that it is to trial a revolutionary new payment system called BT Array which is aimed at internet users who wish to make small value purchases.
The trial, scheduled to last six months, is aimed at making purchases of around a few pounds easy, secure and economical. Companies selling their services or content via BT Array include Which? Online, Hemmington Scott Publishing, Internet Magazine from EMAP and Amco Services.
Internet users first register and forward their credit card details and e-mail address online and then choose their own username and password which are used each time a purchase is made.
Simon Champion, head of BT Electronic Commerce, said: “Internet traders until now have not had an easy method for charging for small value goods, services, information or software delivered over the internet from BT.” In addition, users can see their credit balance and get a listing of their purchases on-line.
