BT Unveils FRIACO-based Unmetered Access Package

BT has announced details of the launch of its unmetered internet access package. BTinternet Anytime will be available from January for a flat rate of £14.99 per month.

The group is to open up its flat-rate circuit (FRIACO) to rivals in January and the launch of Anytime will coincide with similar packages from AOL and Freeserve. BT’s package will not be based on FRIACO until April, however.

Its rivals have so far found it impossible to launch an unmetered net access package, after BT stalled on its promise to open up FRIACO (Flat Rate Internet Access Call Origination). AltaVista was forced to put its unmetered service on hold (see AltaVista Blames BT For Stalling On Free Internet Service) and NTL pulled advertising of its free net service after a series of customer complaints (see NTL Pulls Advertising Of Net Service).

BT introduced its current net package SurfTime earlier this year in response to similar packages from its rivals. It allows customers free internet access during evenings and weekends for £9.99 per month. In total BTinternet has 500,000 unmetered access customers (see BT Responds To Internet Pricing War).
