Budget News For National Heritage Department
Yesterday’s budget allowed £960 million for the Department of National Heritage for 1996/7. Virginia Bottomley said that together with National Lottery money of more than £1 billion the Department is better off than ever before.
The British film industry will receive £26 million for 1995/6, with lottery funding to the tune of £84 million earmarked for the film industry in the period to the year 2000. Broadcasting has been allocated £71 million for the coming year, £4 million more than it received last year, and the government plans for it to receive up to £79 million for the year 1998/9.
