Business Daily To Rival FT
There are plans to launch a new business daily newspaper to rival the Financial Times, according to a report in today’s Independent.
The plan is the idea of the city editor of the Mail on Sunday, Clive Wolman. At the moment he is approaching publishing groups to back the paper; those believed to have been approached so far are EMAP, Mirror Group, the Telegraph and the Economist. Associated Newspapers, his own employers are understood to have decided against the idea. He is seeking £10m backing for the paper.
All editions would carry the main business stories of the day, but the paper will have regional and sectoral editions, such as a Scottish paper, or an insurance and shipping edition. Cover price is likely to be as much as £1. Sports coverage may be included.
