C4 To Broadcast 24-Hour Schedule

In a presentation to agencies and advertisers Channel 4 revealed that it would be spending an extra £45m on programming for 1997 and will begin broadcasting 24 hours a day.

Amongst the highlights of the new 1997 schedule will be premieres of Reservoir Dogs and Trainspotting. Also featured will be Alan Bleasdale’s Melissa, a new police series called Bombay Blue and an eight-hour adaptation of Anthony Powell’s A Dance to the Music of Time.

According to John Willis, C4’s director of programmes, the channel predicts that its audience share for 1996 will come in at 10.7 per cent, slightly down from last year’s average of 10.9%.
