C4 Unveils ‘Future Proof Schedule’ For New Millennium

Channel 4 has announced details of its programme schedule for the Winter 2000 season. It promises that the selection of programmes will mix contemporary stories, instant classics and returning favourites with the broadest array of upcoming talent showcased anywhere on British television.

To kick things off Channel 4 finally gets round to showing Ali G, the spin off programme from The 11 O’clock Show, although no exact date has been given for the start of the six part series. The controversial drama series Queer As Folk returns for some more hard hitting storylines. Following successful pilots as part of Comedy Lab, Channel 4 has commissioned two new comedy shows Trigger Happy TV with Dom Joly and That Peter Kay Thing featuring Peter Kay.

There is also a broadening of the channel’s drama portfolio with the four part adaptation of the classic Anna Karenina. Other major new commissions include: a three part look into the hormonal and emotional consequences for today’s adolescents titled Teenage Sexuality; Six Experiments that Changed the World, recreating the moment of discovery experienced by six of the world’s greatest scientific minds; Blunders which documents the tragic consequences of military incompetence through the ages and Great Undertakings a six part look at death, mourning and the human condition through the eyes of funeral directors.

The channel’s news output will be enhanced by the launch of a seventh daily edition of Channel 4 News on Sundays.
