C4 Worth Less Than Expected
An article in today’s Independent reports that Channel 4 would be worth much less than £1 bn if it was privatised. This is significantly less than the £1.5 bn *(Channel 4 Sell-off Rumours) mentioned earlier this year.
The speculation follows Michael Grade’s outspoken comments at yesterday’s Edinburgh International Television Festival against possible moves to privatise the channel. Mr Grade, chief executive at Channel 4, acknowledged his disappointment with the Government for considering privatisation as part of the political agenda. He also mentioned that Channel 4 will be fighting any move for privatisation. Although any ideas for privatisation are not confirmed the Government has never denied suggestions for the change.
Channel 4 must pay a percentage of its revenues to ITV companies when advertising revenue exceeds 14 percent. Since Michael Grade’s comments Channel 4 has not issued any formal statements.
