According to Raymond Snoddy writing in today’s FT, the ITC is likely to announce approval for C5 in the next few weeks; there are growing signs that the new channel is likely to go ahead, although the final decision has yet to be taken by members of the board.
If the ITC does decide to go ahead with the new channel, it will be advertised in November, with a winner chosen by April or May next year. The ITC is at the moment trying to win permission to use more frequencies for the channel to take it beyond a minimum guaranteed coverage of 52% of the population. However information on the frequencies which could be used will not be available in time for a decision on the channel.
There has been interest from the US and Canada in bidding for a fifth channel.
