C5 On Target With Retuning

C5 On Target With Retuning

David Elstein, chief executive of Channel 5, yesterday announced that the channel had completed the retuning of 90 per cent of VCRs, the minimum amount required by the ITC. This now clears the way for the channel to launch as planned on Easter Sunday.

The ITC still has to officially approve C5’s claims, though it is understood that the watchdog has tacitly accepted the figure after commissioning independent auditors to examine the channel’s retuning methodology.

Mr Elstein also revealed that C5 had received 525 complaints of damage to VCRs and a total of between £20,000 and £30,000 compensation had been paid.
