C5’s CBB eviction and Bit on the Side fracas tops TV Twitter

Tuesday night saw Channel 5 provide a juicy chunk of fresh scandal for the baying tabloid press as the usually friendly post-show chit chat with Ryan Clark turned into a bit of a (new standard industry term) fracas.

Earlier in the evening Celebrity Big Brother (9pm) once again managed to pull in the Viacom-owned broadcaster’s biggest audience of the day with a double eviction seeing former porn magnate and now professional tragic figure Jenna Jameson and ‘first supermodel’ Janice Dickinson get catapulted from the compound.

An audience of 1.6 million viewers tuned in to see the latest exercise in backstabbing, airing ill-informed opinions and public breakdowns, resulting in an 8% share.

But it was Celebrity Big Brother’s Bit on the Side (11pm) that grabbed the headlines this morning as a four way cat fight took the show off the air and sent a former contestant to hospital, naturally leading the Twitterati to lose it.

While the late night chat show didn’t exactly set the ratings on fire, the cheap schedule filling spin-off got heaps of attention for all the wrong reasons.

An audience of 417,000 viewers watched as former contestant Aisleyne Horgan Wallace launched a glass at former professional pregnant teenager Farrah Abraham, only for it to be deflected by Janice Dickinson with a chair…straight into former ‘Allo ‘Allo! Star Vicki Michelle’s face (allegedly).

Elsewhere, New Tricks (BBC One) was hurtling towards the end with the third-to-last -episode-ever as the gang of dusty crime solvers looked into the death of a lottery winner. 5.1 million viewers, the 9pm slots biggest audience, tuned in to soak up the UCOS action while they could, resulting in a 25% share.

Over on BBC Two there was a brand new reality singing series which was unlike anything you’ve seen before with The Naked Choir with Gareth Malone (9pm), which is as off-putting a title as anyone could imagine.

Was man child songstrel Gareth performing in his altogether? Did he gather up a random group of harried wives to sing their hearts out while in their noddy? No, the show saw Malone once again gather together different groups to vocally duke it out, fully clothed. So just business as usual then, with a ‘buzzy’ title slapped on.

The new series got off to a healthy start with 2.3 million viewers, an 11% share and not one incident of bare flesh on display.

On ITV, the second of three instalments of Britain’s Biggest Adventures with Bear Grylls (9pm) saw the adventurer abseiling and caving and was watched by just 1.2 million viewers and a 6% share.

Pulling in the exact same audience was the latest Educating Cardiff (9pm) On Channel 4, once again allowing vulnerable young adults have all their issues aired to a national audience, resulting in 1.2 million viewers and a 6% share.

At 8pm Holby City netted 4.4 million viewers (a 22% share) on BBC One, while BBC Two’s The Hairy Bikers’ Northern Exposure pulled in 2.3 million and an 11% share.

ITV’s Parking Wars (8pm) was watched by 2.2 million viewers (an 11% share) while Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners (Channel 4, 8pm) and The Yorkshire Vet (Channel 5, 8pm) secured 1.3 million (a 6% share) and 1.1 million viewers (a 5% share), respectively.

EastEnders

At 7pm, ITV’s Emmerdale took Tuesday’s second place with 5.4 million viewers and a 30% share while BBC One’s EastEnders took the day’s top spot.

At 7:30pm, BBC One surprised its audience with the shock return of Robbie Jackson and his resurrected familiar Welard 2.0.

6.6 million viewers watched as Carol Jackson’s imminent exit storyline unfolded, resulting in a 34% share for the London-based soap.
