Cabal Retaliates To Alleged Ban Of Front By Supermarkets
The recently launched lad’s magazine Front (see Newsline), published by Sally O’Sullivan’s group Cabal Communications, today denied reports in Marketing and Marketing Week that the title is being kept of the shelves at supermarkets ASDA and Sainsbury’s.
According to some of the trade press reports, both supermarkets are refusing to stock the magazine because of concern over its sexual content. Sainsbury’s apparently received hundreds of complaints after selling the first issue of front.
However, Alan Williams, circulations manager at Cabal, told Newsline this afternoon that the reports are completely untrue. Williams said Cabal made no effort to hide the fact that its first issue was pulled by the supermarket chains after receiving complaints, but since then media buyers for both ASDA and Sainsbury’s approved the second issue, and the delay in getting them on to the shelves was due to supply technicalities rather than objections to the magazine content.
Williams was confident that the third issue of front would be available in both Sainsbury’s and ASDA from the word go. Cabal is seeking retractions of the stories from both of the trade publications.
