Cable Companies Attempt Their Own Pay-Pay-View Deal

Several cable companies are believed to be in the process of launching their own pay-per-view movie services as direct competition to BSkyB’s proposed plans. In what is another step in the current trend to break away from the BSkyB dominance of the pay television, the cable companies are said to be in negotiation with several Hollywood studios Cable Companies To Invest In Programming.

At present cable companies offer package deals to their customers that allow them to view the various different Sky channels, but the companies are unhappy with the latest ratecard from BSkyB and want to move into what they see as the next phase of non-terrestrial viewing Cable Communications Association Reject New BSkyB Rate Card.

BSkyB is said to have signed a deal with Fox, sister company to BSkyB, for exclusive rights to pay-per-view movies in the UK with Paramount expected to sign shortly. BSkyB has also denied that it is involved in talks with Premier League football clubs with regard to pay-per-view right to matches.
