By 1 July 1997 there were 2.068 million homes connected to a cable television system, according to figures released by the ITC, compared to 1.522 million homes in July last year. This puts the current penetration rate at 21.9%, up from 21.3% last July but down 0.1% from April 1997.
Figures for cable operators put Cable & Wireless Communications as the largest, with 648,378 homes passed, and TeleWest as the second at 560,749 homes.
