Cable Licences Awarded And Announced

The Independent Television Commission has awarded the local delivery licence for the Southern East Anglia area to Southern East Anglia Cable Ltd, which was the only applicant. The network is to be constructed over an 11 year period starting in 1997. Licences for the areas of West Kent and Blackpool and Fyde were awarded in 1994.

The ITC has also invited applications for two further local delivery franchises, for the areas of Totton and Hythe in the New Forest and Glamorgan and Gwent in South Wales.

A local delivery franchise is the new equivalent of a cable franchise, enabling an operator to provide cable television and telecommunications services within the area concerned.
