Cable Penetration Reaches Highest Level For 4 Years
The fourth quarter of 1996 saw the cable TV penetration rate reach 22.4%, the highest level for four years, according to new ITC statistics. This is an increase of 1.2% points on the third quarter and 0.4% points year on year. Overall in the last quarter 257,392 new subscribers signed up for cable services.
Cable TV subscriptions as a percentage of TV homes has now risen to 7.96%, up from 6.82% for the third quarter and up from 5.91% year on year.
Amongst cable companies, the ITC put CableTel UK as the largest, having 30.9% of TV penetration and Comcast came second with a penetration figure of 26.6%.
