Cable TV Penetration Stuck At 21%

Cable television’s penetration rate stood at 21.8% on the 1 October, up from 21.2% in October 1996 and down from 21.9% in July 1997, according to the latest figures from the ITC. The total number of homes connected to cable TV was 2.211 million, up from 1.647m the previous year.

Overall, 10.143 million homes had been passed by a cable network in the UK by 1 October, with 3.254 million being connected to a cable service of some description. This is a penetration rate of 32.4%, up from 30% in October 1996.

The figures also state that Cable & Wireless Communications is the biggest UK cable operator, with 3.591 million homes passed and 698,370 connected to its services.
