Cable & Wireless Communications has announced a £400 million upgrade and expansion of its entire national network to provide high speed voice and data services. The company’s telephone and internet businesses are expected to benefit the most from the investment.
The project, ‘Network 2000’, has been created through a three year deal with Nortel. Both companies will share research, costs and employes as part of this.
The network will be controlled from a central site, which is aimed at providing greater reliability. It is also expected that new products or additional capacity can be provided automatically, cutting out the need for technicians to visit customers.
