CableTel Wins Northern Ireland Franchise

The ITC has awarded the local delivery licence for Northern Ireland to CableTel Northern Ireland Ltd. CableTel submitted the highest of the four bids for the franchise, £14.42 million.

CableTel also controls cable operations in Greater Glasgown, South Wales, West Surrey and East Hampshire, Hertfordshire and Yorkshire. This will make it the fourth largest UK cable operator.

News of its successful application come as CableTel announced it may float on the London Stock Exchange this year (Newsline 18/05). It said cash raised from the flotation would be used to develop the Northern Ireland franchise. CableTel should be able to offer services in Northern Ireland by the end of 2003.
