Caledonian Newspapers Link To Net

Caledonian Newspapers, The Herald and Evening Times, have both put electronic versions of their titles on the Internet.

The publications are the first Scottish national and regional daily newspapers on the Internet and are one component of a new Internet service by Caledonian Publishing subsidiary, Caledonian Information and Media Services (C.I.M.S.).

The Herald and Evening Times launches officially on Saturday July 1st, but samples of the electronic titles are already available on the Internet.

The Web address is hhp://www.cims.co.uk. This is a short term home for the titles pending further scheduled Internet announcements later this Summer.

These will include details of news, entertainment, culture and advertising services.

The electronic papers have already been redesigned for on-line distribution and make use of interactive colour graphics for a simple “click and go” format.

Live editorial, updated weekly, plus news flashes updated throughout the day, will be available from July 1st.

The concept, design and technical development of the year long project to put the two newspapers on-line has been handled locally by C.I.M.S, whose chairman Liam Kane says:

“We believe the on-line information business will explode over the next couple of years and we intend to be a market leader in Scotland.”
