Capital And Heart Vie For London Top Spot
Heart maintains its position as the capital’s favourite station in terms of share of listening, staying ahead of Capital by the narrowest of margins.
Capital’s additional 0.8% points in share period on period not only sees it put pressure on Heart, which lost 0.4% points over the period, but also moves it ahead of Magic, also down 0.4% points period on period, to regain second place in the London market.
Capital Radio (was 95.8 Capital FM) reclaimed the London top spot from rival Heart in terms of weekly reach in the final quarter of 2005, according to RAJAR figures released today.
The station overtook rival Heart, which saw its weekly reach slip in the final three months of last year, losing 7.74% period on period to allow Capital back on top, despite its own audience declining by 0.17% in the same period.
Elsewhere there is no change for fourth placed Kiss 100 FM, which remains outside the top three despite an increase of 0.2% points period on period in share of listening. In terms of weekly reach, the station saw the only period on period increase within London’s top five during Q4, adding 5.06%, but remains in fourth position.
Virgin FM London continues to languish beneath its more mainstream rivals, maintaining its fifth position within the capital with a weekly reach of 902,000, down 9.16% period on period, and a share of 3.0%, up 0.3% points in the same period.
