Capital Appoints McGeough As Group Sales Director

Capital Radio Group has appointed John McGeough as its new group sales director across its portfolio of brands, including Capital FM, Capital Gold, Century and Xfm.

McGeough, who is currently media trading director at media agency MGOMD, will join Capital later this year and report to Linda Grant, who was recently appointed commercial managing director at the group.

Prior to joining MGOMD, McGeough was deputy broadcast director at Lowe Howard-Spink and he has also worked in TV sales at Granada.

In his new position, McGeough will run the national ad sales unit at Capital with an emphasis on building relationships with agencies and advertisers across the portfolio of brands. He will work closely with Mike Hope-Milne, recently promoted to brand sales director.

The appointment follows that of Gavin Miller, former Starcom group account director, who recently became head of commercial marketing at the group (see Capital Appoints New Head Of Commercial Marketing).

Commenting on the appointment, Grant said: “John has a terrific breadth of knowledge across the whole media spectrum, having run MGOMD’s trading operations with all media owners. The senior management team is now complete – all three have entirely complementary skills and expertise combined with an array of experience across the agency, client and media owner arenas. This trio, working with the excellent team we have in place, will be a combination that’s hard to beat.”

McGeough added: “This is exactly the right move at the right time for me. I was attracted to the dynamism of Capital and Linda’s clear vision for backing strong media brands with a highly-tuned customer-led sales operation. Having spent the last 12 years of my career on the agency side and I think I can bring an agency-style trading perspective to the existing ad sales team at Leicester Square.”

Grant recently unveiled the blueprint for the group’s new commercial division, which has been restructured to provide greater customer focus and more emphasis on selling the group’s portfolio of brands (see Capital Unveils Newly Restructured Commercial Division).
