Capital Challenged By IPA

The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising is threatening to refer Capital Radio to the Office of Fair Trading if it does not reform its airtime dealing practices.

The IPA is seeking a meeting with Capital following concerns expressed by clients and agencies that the station is using its domination of radio airtime sales in a monopolistic way.

Capital was the subject of an OFT investigation in 1992 after Kiss FM referred the station’s exclusive pricing deals to the regulator; Capital assured the OFT that it would avoid such deals in the future. Capital has said that they would be happy to talk to the IPA.
