Capital FM Network has appointed former Lastminute.com head of marketing, Carl Lyons, as it senior marketing director.
Lyons will take up the position at the end of March and will be responsible for defining and developing the marketing strategy for Capital FM and its seven sister stations, which include Century, Capital Gold and Xfm.
Reporting to Capital FM managing director, Andria Vidler, he will oversee the management of the network’s external agencies, events and interactive team. It is understood that this is the first time that Capital FM has appointed someone to oversee the marketing for the whole Capital FM network.
Commenting on the appointment, Vidler said: “These are exciting times for the Capital FM Network with our listeners welcoming the changes we’ve made to our programming and music. I am confident that Carl’s experience in steering a brand through change together with his vision and creative flair will prove invaluable as we continue move forward.”
Prior to joining Lastminute.com, Lyons was senior brand manager for The Guardian, where he was responsible for creating the paper’s single brand proposition. As brand manager for Draught Guinness he was also responsible for developing the first internet led marketing campaign for the FMCG brand.
Earlier this week Capital Radio said that it expects its radio revenues to decline by 3% in the three months to March 2003, following a 6% drop in the final quarter of last year (see Capital Sees Revenues Down 5% In First Half).
In a statement issued yesterday, the company announced: “The short term market is very uncertain and we remain cautious regarding future advertising demand. We continue to manage the cost base of our business on the assumption that the advertising market remains under pressure for the rest of our financial year.”
