Capital Poaches Barker For Regional Sales Role

Capital Radio has appointed Dominic Barker as regional sales director with responsibility for managing client and agency sales in Newcastle, Glasgow and Manchester.

Barker will be one of three regional sales directors and will take over from Liz Chapman, who has recently been covering for Deborah Meek. He will report directly to Capital’s commercial managing director, Jo Bucci.

Barker joins Capital from Opus, where he spent six and a half years, ultimately as head of sponsorship and promotions for the Opus North and Scotland team, covering brands including Cussons, Matalan and Baxter’s soup. Before this, he was head of sponsorship and promotions for Classic FM and later head of sponsorship and promotions for Opus national sales.

Commenting on the appointment, Bucci said: “Dominic is an important addition to an already strong Capital Radio Group commercial management team. North of England and Scottish markets continue to grow with some pace and it is our goal to offer ever-increasing service levels to our regional customers.”

Meanwhile, Capital’s alternative radio station Xfm has announced that DJ Zoë Ball is moving from her drivetime show in the New Year to spend more time with her son, and will instead present a brand new show on the station every Friday night.

Ball, who has hosted the show for the last fifteen months, will hand over the reins to fellow Xfm DJ Lauren Laverne, who will front the programme from Monday 5 January 2004.

Earlier this month Capital confirmed that Neil ‘Doctor’ Fox will step down as presenter of the Hit 40 chart show next year after more than a decade. Fox will continue to present his weekly afternoon show on London’s Capital 95.8 FM and will head up the search for a replacement to the Sunday afternoon Hit 40 chart show (see Foxy To Leave Hit 40 After More Than A Decade).
