Capital Puts Xfm On Hold Pending Relaunch
Xfm’s new owner, Capital Radio (see Capital Receives Go-Ahead On Xfm Takeover), is to relaunch the station on Monday 24 August, with a new daily afternoon programme hosted by Bob Geldof. Geldof is to host a two-hour show, between 4pm and 6pm, and will be playing “simply the music that I like”.
Until Monday’s relaunch at 6am, the station will transmit a looped tape of songs from Xfm’s current playlist and alternative ‘classics’. Capital’s group director of programmes, Richard Park, says: “We’re very excited about having Xfm because the new music content is something that we firmly believe needs to be brought to the forefront for young Londoners. It’s time for the radio station itself to move to the next level.”
Of his show, Geldof said: “Most of the radio I hear I can live without. It’s our intention to play music that arrests you, that lifts you from the mundanity of your chores and makes you pay attention, and that’s the intent in general of the whole station.”
