Capital Radio Appoints New Head Of Commercial Marketing

Capital Radio has appointed Jane Bardsley as its new head of commercial marketing, following the recent restructure of its senior management team.

Bardsley, who has a twelve month contract covering maternity leave for Juliet Browse, will focus on trade marketing and public relations for the group’s seven brands: Capital FM, Century FM, Capital Gold, Xfm, Choice, Hit 40 UK and Newslink.

Commenting in her appointment, Bardsley said: “The team are all highly experienced marketing professionals and we will deliver some great customer focussed marketing and media solutions for our clients.”

Bardsley has worked at Capital Radio since May last year. She moves from her role as commercial marketing manager, which has been filed by Bryan Scot, who was previously marketing manager at Earls Court and Olympia Group.

Last month Capital Radio restructured its senior management team and put veteran programming executive, Keith Pringle, in charge of its flagship London station in a bid to increase listening (see Capital Shakes Up Management To Win Back Listeners).

The group’s managing director of national sales in London, Linda Grant, also recently unveiled the blueprint for the group’s new commercial division, which has been restructured to provide greater customer focus and more emphasis on selling the group’s portfolio of brands (see Capital Unveils Newly Restructured Commercial Division).

The latest RAJAR listening figures for the second quarter of 2003 show that Capital 95.8 FM saw its weekly reach decline by 4.9% year on year to just over 2.6 million. However, the flagship station performed well in period on period analysis, with weekly reach increasing by 8.7%, indicating that recent changes to its programming, music policy and presenter line-up are paying off (see RAJAR Results Q2 2003: Capital’s Dominance Dips As London Competition Grows).
