Capital Radio Expands Digital Coverage On NTL

Capital Radio is increasing its digital presence by launching three further services on the NTL Home network.

The stations due go live on the network at the end of November are the flagship 95.8 Capital FM, Century FM and the recently launched Capital Disney children’s station. They will sit alongside Xfm and Capital Gold, which are already accessible via NTL Home and Sky Digital.

Capital also intends to open up discussions with both Sky and NTL Home to launch the recently acquired Choice FM on digital TV, as part of the group’s vision to build the stations as the UK’s leading urban music brand (see Capital Radio Takes Choice FM For £15 Million).

Choice already operates a network of five digital radio licences covering London, the North West, Yorkshire, North East and the Severn Estuary.

Commenting on the initiative, Nathalie Schwarz, Capital’s director of strategy and development, said: “With all of our core brands now available on NTL Home, this means that Capital’s leading stations are now broadcasting on DAB, on-line and on digital television.

She added: “This is a further step towards fulfilling our objective to develop our radio brands across new platforms, and to grow the number of commercially attractive listeners we deliver to advertisers.”

Earlier this month Capital announced that revenues fell by 3.9% and pre-tax profits dipped by 18.0% in the twelve months to September. However, chief executive, David Mansfield, said that there is greater visibility and positive revenue growth is forecast for the current quarter (see Weak Ad Conditions Push Capital Radio Profits Down 18%).
