Capital Radio To Apply For North East Licence

Capital Radio is proposing to launch a children’s radio station to cover the North East of England, it has been announced.

The company is planning to launch Fun Radio in response to the Radio Authority advertising an FM licence for the area covering Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesborough.

Fun’s target audience will be aged from 4-14, with daytime programming aimed at parents/carers and their children. Programming will be music-driven, playing a mix of teen bands and novelty hits, interspersed with information and educational items. It is also expected that Fun Radio will develop close relationships with schools, youth organisations, local authorities and social services.

Details on the other bidders will be released by the Radio Authority on 10 March.
