Capital Still On Top As AM Declines Across London
Capital 95.8 FM strengthened its lead over its competition in London, increasing both reach and share during the three month period to December 2000. Its share of viewing across the capital saw the biggest increase of any station over the period, climbing 1.1% points to 12.4%, and its weekly reach was extended to 2.85m people.
BBC’s rebranded London Live station (see BBC Radio Announces Rebranding Of Its GLR Service) had a successful quarter, reporting the greatest increase in terms of weekly reach. It added a massive 27.8% in a period on period analysis and now reaches 299,000 people across the capital. Less successful was the renamed Fusion 107.3, which lost 10% of its reach across the period.
The AM waveband showed signs of terminal decline in the final quarter of 2000. Spectrum Radio lost 39% of its weekly reach and LBC was down 14.2%; Spectrum’s share of listening is now just 0.8% and LBC reported a 2.7% share. Liberty remained static in reach terms but no share details for the station were reported.
