Carat has announced a number of changes to its UK senior team – including the appointment of Rick Hirst as chief executive officer.

Formerly CEO of sister Dentsu agency mcgarrybowen, Hirst will continue to report to Dentsu Aegis Network CEO, Tracy De Groose.

He will be supported by Matt Landeman, a 20-year Carat veteran, who has been promoted from chief client officer to managing director, alongside chief strategic officer, Dan Hagen and chief marketing officer, Stuart Newman.

“I’m incredibly excited to be joining Carat,” said Hirst. “Helping clients win in today’s digital economy will take diverse teams and constant innovation.

“The boundaries are blurring and hybrid leaders are becoming more and more important. What hasn’t changed is that it’s still about brave ideas, client-centric ways of working and innovation.”

Matthew Hook, who has served in senior leadership roles at Carat for more than four years, most recently as managing director, has also been promoted to the newly created role of chief strategic officer for Dentsu Aegis Network UK and Ireland and will become part of De Groose’s core team once Hirst is on board.

“These appointments represent an exciting time for our business and are testament to the ability of our network to help our people build interesting and diverse careers,” De Groose said.

“The moves strengthen our leadership by bringing fresh new perspectives and expertise to our different agencies and to our clients.”

Dentsu has said that the search for a new mcgarrybowan CEO is currently under way.
