Carlton And BT Trial Fast Access Internet
Carlton Online is to take part in a fast access internet trial with BT, it announced late last week. Viewers will be able to access the internet and experience high quality audio and video on their PCs.
Carlton also announced recently that it was to take part in an interactive television trial in London and Liverpool this year, along with Granada (see Newsline).
The BT Interactive trial will take place between December ’98 and September ’99, and 900 internet users will be given fast access to the internet over their normal telephone lines, using Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ASDL).
Carol Dukes, managing director of Carlton Online, commented on the trial: “The WebTV trial is about bringing the internet to television sets and merging web content with our programmes. The BT Interactive trial offers us the chance to bring some of our programming to viewers on the internet and present it in ways not currently possible in broadcast environment.”
Other content providers taking part in the trial are Pearson Television, ITN, Flextech and the BBC.
